Jacob Mafuleni

He is the founder and trustee of the trust and was born and bred in the
high density suburbs of dzivaresekwa. He holds vast experience in crafting and playing music instruments and in traditional dances. Jacob Mafuleni started his career way back in1990 with a traditional
group called Boterekwa Dance Troupe, the group that was led by one the late David Tafaneyi Gweshe
a renowned traditional dance icon locally and international and gained vast knowledge in playing
marimba, mbira, drums, singing and dancing traditional music. With this group Jacob Mafuleni toured
around the world and exhibited his musical skills. In 1993 he joined a traditional group called
Ramambo Marimba and formed his traditional group in 1999 called Sweet Calabash and later
changed to Shingira Mbira Master. This group released a 6 tracked album titled Zerevende. He joined
Mbira dzeNharira and toured China among other asian countries and africa in show casing his musical skills. He is multi-talented in playing musical instruments , singing and dancing and that alone
gained him entry to the famous Chiwoniso Maraire and Vibe Culture and toured a lot around Europe.
It is against this background that Jacob Mafuleni has inspired to found this Trust present day. He is
training youth in crafting as well as how to play these traditional instruments for free in the community he grew up in. He is also leading a group called Mhodzi Marimba band at Tsoro Arts and Social
Centre. This group is made of three (3) categories which comprises of ten years old, fourteen years
old, Woman’s Marimba Band and a mixed man and woman Marimba band
